This Fall, LAUP Adelante/Mas Adelante alumnus, Yadah Ramirez, returns to Holland to serve as the University of Michigan College Advising Corps member at Holland High School.
“A large number of our former program participants graduated from college this year,” says LAUP Director, Roberto Jara. “Yadah’s story is one of many amazing stories of our Adelante alumni!”
Yadah is a recipient of the Holland Promise scholarship and graduated this past May from the University of Michigan with a major in Behavioral Cognitive Neuroscience and three minors: Religion, Gender and Health with an Emphasis in Public Policy, and Latino Studies.
In high school, she was highly involved in Destination Education’s efforts to move first generation youth to completion of post-secondary degrees and credentials. For the 2017/2018 school year she will be the full-time College Advisor at Holland High School.
Reflecting on the role that served to provide her so much assistance in her Senior year of high school, Yadah says: “So many organizations in the Holland community helped me in my education. Returning to Holland to be Holland High School’s College Advisor is an opportunity to reinvest in the community that had invested so much in me.”
Yadah also plans to serve as an instructor in the LAUP Mas Adelante program starting in the Fall.
